The "Cornerstone theory" ---------- The Cornerstone Theory was suggested by Graham Nelson in 1995, as an idea for what would happen if Cornerstone wasn't released by Infocom in 1985. ---------- Summary 1985: Infocom releases Milliways: the restaurant at the end of the universe, and Microsoft fails to release windows 1.0. Early 1990's: Linux is released, and MS DOS is still popular among computer users. Late 1990's: Computers become less and less popular, even among software and hardware developers. 2000's: Computers have vanished off the face of the earth. --------- Reception Many people in the Interactive fiction community regarded the theory as rediculous and down-right stupid, until A. P. Hill proved the theory to be 90% probable. The theory was later rejected by the IF community in 2010. ---------- Probability. According to A. P. Hill's results in 1997, there is a 90% chance that the release of cornerstone had an effect on the release of Windows 1.0. Many IF authors (such as Jim Aikin and G. Kevin wilson) have speculated that the release of Windows 1.0 could have an effect on the release of cornerstone, but this was ruled out in 2003, by Al Golden and Emily Short (The Task force of Amphibia). In 2013, a japanese engineering company began work on a time machine, and the first prototypes are ready to test. End of contents
